Fred Dibnah: The Big Road Atlas

Fred Dibnah The Big Road Atlas_edited-1.jpg

What's it all about?

Anyone who knew Fred Dibnah will know that ATLAS was Fred’s favourite traction engine of all time.

Turn back the clock to the 1930s as the preserved Fowler ‘Big Lion’ No 17105 ‘ATLAS’ re-creates scenes from its working life. This was a time when steam was king in the heavy haulage business and hundreds of tons were moved on Britain’s roads.

Watch legendary steeplejack and steam man Fred Dibnah as he joins the Eastnor heavy haulage team, along with owner James Hervey-Bathurst as they take a 40-ton road-train from Gloucester, over the Malvern hills to Eastnor near Ledbury.

This filmed journey, taken 30 years back in time and preserved for the future.

Running time 60 minutes.

The copyright of this film has been donated to the Fred Dibnah Foundation by producer Jim Stevenson to raise funds and keep Fred Dibnah’s legacy and all things ‘steam’ alive.
